Unhappy with your blog

People often ask me what they should do if they are unhappy with their blog. After the initial burst of energy when they start a blog and tweak the style and layout, and after you get your first readers and first regular commentators, you can feel a little empty. Many bloggers even start to get depressed that their blog isn’t growing as much as they had expected, or at the same rate like it did at the start. Here are some ideas as to what you can do if you are having “bloggers block“. Bloggers Block is like writers blog, but is more directed towards us bloggers . Don’t worry, it’s not like something painful or something that you need to go to the hospital about.
Have a Break, Have a Kitkat

If you feel that your creative juices are no longer flowing like they once used to, then maybe it’s time you stepped back from your blog a little and took a break. I would mention it to your readers that you are going to be gone for a month or a few weeks, and tell them to subscribe to your RSS feed, so that they can be informed when you come back blogging. Taking a break from blogging can allow you catch up with things you were missing out while blogging.
Rediscover the things you used to do before you started blogging. Blogging should not feel like a chore, and maybe once you have take a break from the world of bloggging, you will find a new energy to post on your blog.
Expand the Topics
They say “A change is as good as a rest“, and this is also true for blogging. Maybe you start to mix up your posts a little and introduce new categories to blog under. Think about other things that you like, and see if you can incorporate these into your blog. As in if you have a blog about cooking, maybe you can talk about where you shop to find the best ingredients or about funny dinner conversations. These related topics are also likely to be of interest to your blog readers.
Sell up and Start a new

There is always the option to cash in and make some money from your blog posts. Today I saw that CashQuests.com has sold his blog on SitePoint.com for a staggering USD$15k / €10k . This came shortly after BloggingFingers.com was sold for USD$6k / €3k also on SitePoint.com too.

These may be extreme examples, as these guys had a stream of income, but you can see that people do buy and sell blogs. Shaun Low also sold his at the end of September for an undisclosed fee. If you do feel that you can’t go further with your blog, then maybe you should consider selling it on SitePoint.com. There are other sites around, but SitePoint has a better quality of auctions. This is mainly due to the fact that you have to pay to get it listed there. You could also look at forums.digitalpoint.com, they offer a market place like SitePoint, and it is free. It is also better to get out sooner rather than later. If you think that you are no longer interested in blogging on a certain topic and you are unlikely to be updating the blog any time soon, then you should think of selling up before your readers leave you.

Becky, I think selling the blog is the extreme step you want to do. I’m sure that if cashquests had continued blogging for some more time, say 6 more months, it would have got double the money.
But as usual, you have some good advice here.

I was writer’s blog once in a while but so far Im not giving up blogging. When everytime this thing happened to me I just think of blogging as for fun and not for making money online. It really works (at least for me).
