Updating my about me page

Eric Socia (from EricSocia.net , why not register the .com ? it is available) has hit me with a meme, which explains a little about me. I will incorporate these answers in the blog once I get a chance to. I don’t normally take part in memes, but seeing as it is about time that I updated my about me page, I may as well take part here. So here we go

What is a Meme ?

In case I’ve lost you on the first sentence up there : Memes are the equivalent online chain letters, where you speak about certain topics and then pass or tag other people, to get them to participate. Memes can be a fun way to blog, and it also helps you link in with other bloggers.

Meme Questions

(1) How Long Have You Been Blogging?

I’ve been blogging for a about 3 years. I started with a blogspot blog, and talked about what I ate for dinner and who I had a crush on and other rather banal things. I’ve moved on since then, thank God. I now host my blogs and run wordpress , I have about 10 blogs that I updated at various frequencies, and some I outsource, they on number of general topics that interest me (see I am not giving much away).

(2) What Inspired You To Start A Blog and Who Are Your Mentors?

The reason behind PreBlogging.com was to show my friends and friends of my parents how to get started in the world of blogging. A lot of people know I blog, but they don’t really know what it is, so I found myself setting up wordpress blogs left, right and centre for people. So I put this together and it just took off. The reason for blogging in the first place, was a friend who showed my what you could do with an online journal.

As for my Mentors, I don’t attribute my motivation or inspiration to anyone. I do read many of the big “make money online” guys, but I also try to read some other types of blogs who take a simpler approach to things. The reason for this approach is so that I am not someone who reads and follows, rather I am someone who does my own thinking (and shares some of that with the people here).

(3) Are You Trying To Make Money Online Or Just Doing It For Fun?

If you mean the sole reason for blogging is to make money, well that is not particularly right. I am focused on earning some money, and thankfully I earn enough to pay off my car payments every month, plus a little extra. I don’t know if I would invest so much time and effort into something, if it wasn’t returning such a nice profit for me at the end of the month. If I wasn’t making money I would probably just only have one blog and post there infrequently. But now I see that there is a relationship between, the quality of my blogs and the amount of cash in my back pocket. I’d like to keep it somewhat like this, for me blogging = time, and time = money. Blogging allows me to be that little bit more frugal.

(4) Tell Me Three Things You LOVE About Being Online

1. Staying in touch with people who I would otherwise have lost touch with.
2. Making a few $$ to afford my new MacBookPro and pay off my car payments.
3. Did I already mention making money ? I like the fact that sometimes it can be incredibly easy to earn a couple of hundred bucks, while in the real job world I would have to work maybe 10 hours to earn the same amount.

(5) Tell Me Three Things You Struggle With In The Online World

1. A regular blogging schedule ! Who doesn’t ? I don’t know if I am a natural blogger, i.e. is great at writing quickly and articulating my posts. But I have found it has started to get better over time. Planning is my weak point, on and off line.
2. Spellings and grammar. I sometimes think that I was dropped on my head as a baby, getting my thoughts on to the screen isn’t the easiest for me. Again this is something that comes with practise and I feel that it is getting better.
